Our electronic ignition conversions have all the same
benefits as the Pertronix systems used on other, more common, types of cars.
They carry the same warranty- 30 months, easy installation, and have only two
wires to connect with the entire system located inside the distributor.
Below are specific details that apply to this application-
1.
Rotor- this application comes with a new ignition
rotor. The new rotor is made of a special plastic, designed to prevent arching
to the rotor attachment post, which is a common problem found to exist with
original rotors. Also our rotors come with the magnet sleeve, required to
operate the system, attached for easier installation. Removing the magnet
sleeve can be done and the rotor can then be used with points if desired.
2.
Coil- we recommend using the Pertronix 3.0 ohm coil for
best performance and reliability. We have specially designed coils with two
studs in the base to mount on the original mounting pedestal. Unfortunately,
these do not look much like the original Rolls-Royce coil. However if using the
original dome top coil is important to you, it can be done. Please keep in consideration, an original
coil can be eighty some years old. It
may be suffering from deteriorated windings and insulation that can compromise
reliability and damage the electronic ignition module. Also, reproduction dome
top coils have been found to be incompatible with the electronic ignition
conversion resulting in sudden failure. Rewound coils, wound to original
specifications, should perform properly, but need to be checked.
3.
Installation- the module installs inside the
distributor. It has two wires that connect on the coil. The module installs on
the two pins the original points are fitted to so no drilling, filling, or
permanent modifications are required. If desired the original points can be
installed again. No special tools are required; a timing light is required to
ensure proper ignition timing.
4.
Performance- It has been found that overall performance
is improved even over a new set of points. This is due to an improved spark
occurring at the desired moment unaffected by contacts affected by wear and
corrosion. Typically there is an improvement in gasoline mileage, smoother
acceleration and idle, and a slight increase in horsepower.
5.
Assistance- Since we are Rolls-Royce and Bentley
technicians and are very familiar with the Pertronix systems, we can provide
the best technical assistance available if required. You can contact us by
telephone during our regular business hours, or e-mail anytime. We may not be
able to reply until the next business day when using e-mail, but at times we
can respond after hours if our schedule permits. Our conversions come with
installation instructions designed specifically for Rolls-Royce and Bentley
motorcars.
